Jia Yin’s passion for movement began at a young age; she trained in artistic gymnastics and stepped into her first Chinese Dance class at the age of 12.
A leap of faith after graduating from Business school saw her pursuing Dance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) under scholarship. She was the recipient of the Best Graduate Award and the NAFA President Award that year. Thereafter she earned her Bachelors in Fine Arts (Dance) at Purchase College State University of New York (SUNY) Conservatory of Dance under a scholarship from the Singapore National Arts Council (NAC).
Jia Yin has performed in works by international artistes, including Albert Tiong, Francesca Harper, James Cousins, Jeffrey Tan, Kerry Nicholls, MADBOOTS DANCE, Naoko Ito, Pichet Klunchun, Sarah Foster, and Swee Boon, and Zhang Xiao Xiong/Wu Chien-Wei. When she was based in New York briefly, she performed with Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company for its 2015/16 season, whilst training in the GYROTONIC® method.
She teaches dance, as well as movement classes rooted in and inspired by the work of Gyrotonic, Pilates, and Dance. Her teachings extend to various studios and institutions including The Moving Body, NAFA, Firstpointe, and The Human Expression (T.H.E) and its Second Company Training Initiative (SCTI) helmed by Silvia Yong.
She also undertakes ad hoc choreographic and collaborative projects as an independent artist.
With a broadened interest in movement other than dance, Jia Yin has obtained certifications in GYROTONIC®, GYROKINESIS®, and Balanced Body® Pilates in a continued journey of learning and discovery, self-healing and helping her clients/students, young and old.
She believes in the therapeutic potential of these movement modalities to help those recovering from injuries or suffering from chronic conditions such as back pain, neck strain, knee pain, and scoliosis.
She also finds joy in helping dancers and sportsmen/women who are seeking to maximise their athletic potential and capabilities.
